Our Research & Teaching Models
At Commitment to Change, our work is grounded in evidence, compassion, and impact. This page brings together the foundational research and frameworks that shape our programs: the published studies of Dr. Denise Healy and Dr. Jennie, as well as the core models we use in our teaching—the Love & Compassion Cycle and the From Survival to Freedom program impact model.
Here, you’ll find the science, theory, and lived experience that guide our approach to healing, accountability, and transformation.
What Does the Data Say?
Dr. Denise Healy’s doctoral research focuses on the dose-response effect in clients undergoing domestic violence and batterer intervention programs (DV-BIP). Her study collected data over 16-week, 26-week, and 52-week periods using Likert scale measurements to assess client progress and explore critical questions. The research sought to determine if there was evidence of self-differentiation and change among participants, while also evaluating the optimal treatment duration for DV-BIP offenders to achieve this transformation. Additionally, the study aimed to identify whether there was a reduction in the effectiveness of treatment or a plateau in benefit after 16 weeks, providing valuable insights into tailoring program length for maximum impact.
Educational Research
Dr. Jennie's doctoral research in scripted curriculum at the undergraduate level has given her a comprehensive understanding of the complexities of education, learning processes, and teaching strategies. This specialized knowledge informs her work in coaching, curriculum development, and helping others break free from limiting beliefs to achieve more effective learning outcomes. Her expertise makes a significant impact in guiding individuals to success.
The Love & Compassion Cycle
The Love & Compassion Cycle is the heart of our approach and the foundation of every training we offer. Developed by our co-founder, Denise Healy, this model helps individuals understand how healthy connection begins—with love and compassion for oneself and others. By recognizing this cycle, clients and professionals alike learn to break harmful patterns, build emotional resilience, and foster meaningful relationships. Whether you're participating in a class, workshop, or coaching session, the Love & Compassion Cycle is woven throughout, guiding lasting growth and positive change.
Beyond Survival to Freedom-Program Impact
Beyond Survival to Freedom is a journey that honors every stage of healing—Victim, Survivor, and ultimately, Freedom. Each phase is vital, but surviving is not the finish line. Surviving is about what happened to you; Freedom is about reclaiming your power, choosing your path, and creating a future that’s no longer defined by the past. Our DV Victim course is designed to walk with you through this process, helping you move beyond survival and into a life of purpose, strength, and self-defined freedom.
